26 children rescued from debt slavery

Balanagar: Child labour has become a common sight all over the industrial zone with minors working in automobile garages, hotels, bangle shops, factories and rag picking. Hyderabad police rescued 26 children, allegedly working as debt slaves and nabbed a person, who was involved in trafficking these minors.

Speaking to The Hans India, Hyderabad's District Child Protection officer, Md. Imtiaz Raheem said, "We have a received information from an NGO that some employers are bringing 200 child labours in Danapur Express." Women and Child Welfare Department, Labour Department, and others along with police conducted the rescue operation. According to the police, most of the rescued children were from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Police are collecting useful data from the children, who will be shifted to Saidabad children home.

An automobile garage owner from Balanagar, Saleem said ‘With the lack of educational facilities and support from the government many of the children have been forced towards work. " "Many poor parents are unavailable to send their children to school due to financial crisis and improper family planning’ says Geeta, a social worker.

Talking to Hans India Satish, a government school teacher, said, "Yes I agree children should get their rights but in India, due to poverty children are denied their privileges. No proper jobs are available for their parents. Prices have been increasing day by day. The Government should think about to give free education and medical facilities to children. The poor can then survive and send their children to schools.’
