Jeedimetla: While the scorching heatwaves of summer have already begun to take the state into a frenzy, the Telangana government is setting its ground to protect its farming and other allied sectors from falling into heavy losses.

As a part of which, the Centre of Excellence for Fruits & Vegetables in Jeedimetla held an awareness drive on Wednesday for nearly 100 modern farmers selected by Horticulture Agriculture Officers and Mandal Parishad Development Officers in across 31 districts of the state.

Shedding light on how poly houses could help to grow crops in a healthy environment thereby protecting them from falling prey to adverse climatic conditions and disease, Horticulture Director Latha explained the farmers about how irrigation through the drip system, sprinkler system etc which could help farmers in harvesting plants with minimum water usage thereby rejuvenating groundwater levels.

Several demonstrations on agriculture were presented as videos and pictures to the participants for better understanding. In charge of the Centre of Excellence, Ramakrishna elaborated on how wildfires could be avoided during harsh summers through regular watering of the plants that grow closer to the crops in a field.

As a part of the interactive session, Dr V J Hanumanth Rai, an agricultural scientist from Bengaluru Agriculture University was invited to address the problems being faced by the modern farmers in the state. It has been revealed that the center has allocated nearly 1000 acres as a nursery for healthy plants in order facilitate farmers and is ready for plantation in 1150 acres of poly houses.
