Yousufguda: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have been turning a blind eye towards the Krishna Kanth Park lake also known as Cheruva Kunta in Yousufguda which has begun to dry up much before the arrival of the scorching summer.

Few months ago the lake in Krishna Kanth Park was full of water and its fresh breeze was a relief to the park visitors. It was also a home to numerous variety of fish, but now the lake is in a sorry state as it looks parched.

A security guard at the park said “the lake dried up because of the poor rainfall last year, as this lake is shallow and almost every year the water sinks but this year it completely soaked. The lake was divided into three small ponds for when the park was built beautification because of less water surface the water keeps sinking up every year”. ‘The rising heat is a trouble to the workers because there is less shade. Plants nearby the lake are drying up due to water insufficiency, earlier the park witnessed a lot of visitors during evenings, but now there are very few visitors who visit the park as it continues to be warm in the evenings’ a staff worker from the park, Narsimha ( name changed) said.

Samuel, a regular visitor to the park said “Earlier the park lake attracted a lot of birds which are now gone and the fish also might be dead. The water was a habitat to lot of fauna which is almost vanished with the disappearing water. The trees around the lake are also degrading, apart from this other lakes in the city like the Jalagam Vengal Rao Park in Banjara hills are also endangered”. When contacted, municipal officials played the blame game shifting the role play as usual to departments other than their own.
