Banjara Hills: Urban Residential School (URS) Erramanzil, Banjara hills an initiative by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is in a sorry state. School started in 2017 with the initial batch of 40 students from class four to seven. The government has sanctioned funds for the school, and yet there are no facilities to the school students.

One of the teachers says that the authorities like DEO and Collector know about the plight of the school but they did not take any measurements

As many as 40 students live in two cramped 10x20 rooms with broken doors and windows showing no sign of furniture, it is where they study, sleep and store their belongings. Toilets are jammed and stinky, barely usable due to the lack of water, students drink borewell water because the UV filter is not functional.

Anuradha a school teacher said “Meals are served without vegetables; because the bills are not clear the vendors only cook Khichdi for breakfast and the same Dal and Rice for lunch and dinner these foods possess less nutritional values. Students are supposed to get a balanced diet by proper vegetables and dairy products”. She also added “Authorities like DEO and Collector also knows about this, but they do not act”.

Another teacher Uma Devi said “The government was supposed to allot five teachers, but only two of us are running the school. Where facilities are very poor, school started in June 2017 and notebooks were given last month. The school does not have any benches or desk, doors and windows are broken so the mosquitoes break in to haunt the children at night.

Students do not have sleeping mats as well most of them sleep on ground. Most of the students in the school are orphans or live in extreme poverty where parents cannot afford them end up sending them to URS so that they can live in better condition, but here the situation is even worse.”
