Musheerabad: RTC employees’ union general secretary Raji Reddy called upon RTC workers to demonstrate in front of RTC depots in the State on April 3 in support of the union’s demands and make the programme a grand success. Because of the inefficiency of the recognised-trade union, the RTC workers were left in the lurch, he felt. Drivers and conductors, main pillars to the RTC, have become targets for victimization and victims of favouritism.

They are being subjected to agony deploying them in duties that are violative of laws. He objected to authorities finding fault with conductors and drivers handling ticket-issuing machines for passengers not taking tickets, loss of ticket by the passenger and passenger travelling one stop ahead of the scheduled stop.

Under pressure, the drivers are handling ticket-issuing machines and doing the duty of a driver and also that of a conductor and committing minor faults under duress. Consequently, they are losing jobs, he lamented. Long schedules ranging between 12 and 16 hours are leading to woman conductors not able to take care of their children, he alleged. RTC workers union leaders E Venkanna, S Sai Reddy, Narasayya and others were present.
