Unlawful activities of music copyrights agents condemned
Harassment by so-called music rights agents has reached its peak in the bustling city of Hyderabad. The city which has achieved many top distinctions being the best city to live in India for four consecutive years, the best IT City, etc., has also seen a massive rise in events, concerts, carnivals, exhibitions, global conferences, etc. being in the news for all good is just not the end of story.

More than 200 event managers DJs attend the symposium
The event Industry has seen a massive rise in extortion by so-called music rights agencies like PPL-NOVEX-IPRS etc. The extortion by gate crashing at events, threatening event managers by these so-called agents has reached its maximum. The agents have gone to the extent of removing music cables, confiscating DJ Consoles and sending legal notices to the event managers.
At A special panel discussion organized by TCEI (Telangana Chambers of Events Industries) - event managers from the city of Hyderabad expressed their woes, to the panel comprising Attorney Ashok Kumar - Attorney I.P Markets, T. Prashant Reddy - Asst. Professor - NALSAR - Vijay Kumar Makyam - Attorney - IP Markets.
Prashant Reddy, Asst. Professor - NALSAR a subject matter expert in Intellectual Property Laws & Rights said "there is no clarity, mentioned anywhere that, who owns what, there is no proper registrations, there is no information available anywhere nor on the PPL Website that they have ownership of which Song or Which Music.
Attorney Ashok Kumar mentioned "Article 17 states that only curator of the song like lyricist, or composer of the right to send his song/creation to copyright societies, Music Labels like Yash Raj Music, Zee Music, Shemaroo doesn't have any right, to sell the song rights to NOVEX and Novex has no right to prosecute anyone or issue challan to event managers. The Point was here to mention that this agents often strike at Zero-Hour or directly barges into the events and threaten to file police complain, issue legal notices and sometimes confiscate DJ Instruments.
The talk concluded with the President of TCEI & General Secretary of TCEI stressed on the importance of unity among event managers & DJs in Hyderabad and to boycott all this agents and not to give up to the extortion threats by this agents. The Attorneys asked the Event Managers not to panic or give money to these agents and instead call them.
