The favourite dosa of every Hyderabadi the “Begum Bazaar Dosa” (also known as Bandi Dosa) first started as special dosa in Begum Bazaar about two decades ago. This dosa is now available in all corners of the city.

Inspired by the secret recipe of special dosa many neighbouring areas of Begum Bazaar like Nampally, Abids, Charminar and Osman Gunj started making it and succeeded massively. This dosa culture is spreading across the city and Begum Bazaar dosa is available in the areas like Secunderabad, Mehdipatnam, Uppal, Falaknuma, Tolichowki, and Hi-Tech city as well.

Unlike Udupi dosa Begum Bazaar dosa is much smaller and thinner in size and is topped with a special dal mix chutney, liquid upma, onions, tomatoes and butter (which is optional) and finally decorated with onion potato curry and served with groundnut chutney and karam podi. Krishna a cook from Swad Tiffin centre Abids Said “The dosa we make is thin and crispy below and topping of liquid upma is added make it soft which adds the perfect texture and flavour to the dosa.

Butter with onion also enriches the flavor, most of the visitors prefer butter dosa” Another tiffin centre owner Vikram from Mehdipatnam said “Begum Bazaar dosa is made and sold at cheaper prices Rs 20 for Masala Dosa, Rs 30 for Butter Dosa there are many other options starting from Rs 20 to 120 Cheese, Paneer and Szechwan dosa. Most of the expenditure goes to the cook because the special recipe is the magic of their hands”.

A dosa lover Karan Goyal quoted “Begum Bazaar dosa basically started as quick street food, and then gained popularity. Some of the oldest dosa makers are Pragati, Ram, Govind and Laxman which are all in or near Begum Bazaar. The Begum Bazaar dosa has gained popularity across the city moreover it is also popular for the night dwellers of Hi-Tech city this dosa is sold in food trucks between 12 to 4 am which are teeming in Hi-Tech city.
