Husnabad: A mini stadium on a 6.50-acre site on the outskirts of the town is still under construction ever since Rs 1 crore has been sanctioned to the project on January 18, 2012.

Laying of various track and field events’ tracks, construction of a swimming pool and leveling of the ground are still going on in spite of allocation of funds six years ago. Morale of the sportspersons of the district received a blow as sports and games events could not be held in the district last year as part of the Khel India programme.

To host the event in 2016-17, a meager allocation of Rs 1.24 lakh was made. Then eight sportspersons from the district took part in the event. Last year, 32 sports camps were held to coach 820 sportspersons allocating a mere Rs 50,000 for them. Rural sportspersons did not receive a fillup in Siddipet constituency barring the exception of Siddipet urban area.

Construction of mini stadia elsewhere in the constituency is progressing at a snail’s pace because of meager fund allocation. There are over 60,000 sportspersons in schools and colleges in Husnabad district. Of them, the highly meritorious would be limited to just 5000.
