Secunderabad: The dull and stained walls of Secunderabad Railway Station have recently found relief with the authorities making efforts to give the historic structure, a cosmetic makeover.

Standing bright in its recent "blush-pink" avatar, the 144-year-old structure has become a centre of attraction for the passengers, but also for the onlookers who regularly commute in the area. Although being dropped from the development list of the Indian Railways, the South Central Railways has ensured to utilise the minimum resources it has to fund the beautification process in and the station.

" The decision of beautifying the station was taken somewhere in December and January during the inspection held by the Chairman of Railways. It is unfortunate we couldn't make it to the list of stations for the overall development but that can't stop us from doing at least what we have in our hand. So, currently, we are getting wall panels fixed near the escalators of platform 1 along with boosting Telangana's native Cheriyal art in the general waiting hall.

In fact, we have also got a few corridors painted in certain Cheriyal designs to give a feel-good atmosphere to the passengers." shares Prasad, Secunderabad Railway Station Superintendent. Even passengers seemed to be delighted with the ongoing cosmetic repairs but are apprehensive of its future.

" Firstly, it is sad Secunderabad station couldn't have a complete facelift with state-of-art equipment like those in airports, but the paintings are at least making up as a visual treat. Wall art inspired by Telangana's culture is truly attractive. But I don't know how long this will all setup retain its charm. If passengers don't take the responsibility of keeping the place clean, the station's appearance will again deteriorate. People should seriously stop spitting paan on its walls. It is not just disgusting but also damaging the historic value of the structure." opines Vandana, a passenger.
