Musheerabad: A round-table conference on protection of Maroju Veeranna ‘stupam’ was organised on Sunday at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram by the Vishwakarma Joint Action Committee (JAC). Addressing the participants, Prof Surepalli Sujata and MBC State secretary Pyla Ashayya warned that none dare come anywhere near the ‘stupam’.

They announced that representatives of several people’s organisations would hold relay hunger strike near the stupam from April 11 to 16 in Veeranna’s native village of Karivirala Kothagudem on his death anniversary, to coincide with the jayanti of Mahatma Jypytirao Phule.

The two leaders alleged that the State government was planning to demolish the ‘stupam’ of Veeranna, who is one of the leaders of the final phase of Telangana agitation for the construction of a national highway, ‘although there are alternative options’. They claimed that the government’s move was deliberate as it wanted to crush the Bahujana movement in the State.

The leaders wanted minister Jagdish Reddy to steps for the protection of the stupam. They claimed that the Left parties had taken up debate on role of castes inspired by Veeranna and were trying to unite Dalit Bahujans after reading a book.

Among those present were Vishwakarma JAC president Veera Chary, Vishwakarma Artisans’ Sssociation State secretary Ashok Chary, ‘Kulanirmulana porata samiti’ State president Lakshmayya, Prabhakarchary.
