Hyderabad: Living in technology led modern era, the eco-friendly clay products are finding commercial space in today’s competitive market due to the growing health consciousness in people. As summer sets in, the demand for the elegant combination of fresh and remarkably designed mitticool bottles is increasing, as it comes as a great relief to those who thrive for cold and clean water to suffice the scorching heat.

“It not only keeps the body fully hydrated but also adds minerals and many other micro nutrients to beat heat. As many as mitticool bottles go for sale especially during summer season,” said V N Reddy, distributer for both the Telugu States.

Along with the cooling effect, the mitti bottles are porous enough to seep out impurities within water. The outer surface of the bottle has a thin layer of white coating signifying the quantity of impurity in water. However, some refute to purchase with a doubt on how to carry them from one place to another without causing damage. Analysing the pulse of the customer, Reddy said, “we are mulling to design jute made bags that fit the bottle and keep them safe from breakage, which could certainly bring in confidence to the customers to give it a try.”

Talking about the materials used, he said the products are made of terracotta clay including water bottles, water filter, water pot, biryani pot, handi, cooker, dinner set, linear bowl, non-stick tawa, and night lamp.” Seamless efforts are made from giving it a shape to the final stage of heating it to 1000 degree Celsius for about two and half hours, he stated.

Interestingly, there is a small size refrigerator made of terracotta clay which seems to work more effectively than the one made of metallic piece. This mitti made refrigerator has a hollow space on the top having drinking water and fine pores in it that allow cool water to seep inside the two shelves that keeps vegetables fresh for six days.

“It is a natural process to ensure the vegetables remain fresh for long time. It saves power and prevents from releasing Ozone-depleting chemicals that is usually emitted from metallic refrigerators,” he added.

It takes around 45 minutes to cool the water in mittibottles. As it is porous in nature the water seeps out and the bottle remains empty after a day. The terracotta made bottles serves for long time when properly handled. It must be cleaned only using lemon and hot water.
