Collector promises Jyotiba Phule statue in town for next celebrations

Vikarabad: District Collector Sayyad Omar Jaleel has noted that educational and employment opportunities and opportunities in politics for weaker sections and the down-trodden are the result of the relentless battles waged by social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.

Participating as chief guest in the 192nd birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule held here on Wednesday, he was emphatic when he said people following foot-steps of Phule are sure to progress in life. He promised to set up Jyotiba Phule statue in the district for the next birth anniversary celebrations. He said that he would strive for setting up of residential schools and study circles for backward classes in the district.

Local MLA Sanjiva Rao said that Ambedkar declared Jyotiba as his guru impressed by the struggles launched by the latter against social evils. He calls for unity among the BCs for development. He exhorted the BCs, who constitute 50 per cent of the state’s population, to fight for their political development.

He distributed Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi cheques among the beneficiaries. MP of Chevella Konda visweswara Reddy, Municipal chairman Satyanarayana, joint collector Sandhya Rani, District backward classes welfare officer Pushpalata, RDO Viswanadham, municipal commissioner Satyanarayana reddy, Tahsildar Chinnappala Naidu and others took part in the celebrations.
