Dry & wet waste segregation fosters employment
The initiative of segregation of dry and wet waste by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is helping in creating revenue for many employees to live their livelihood. However, the Dry Resource Collection Centre (DRCC) near Sanjeevaiah Park has segregated wet and dry waste and collected a revenue of Rs 11.40 lakh only in the month of March 2018.
Hyderabad: The initiative of segregation of dry and wet waste by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is helping in creating revenue for many employees to live their livelihood. However, the Dry Resource Collection Centre (DRCC) near Sanjeevaiah Park has segregated wet and dry waste and collected a revenue of Rs 11.40 lakh only in the month of March 2018.
The GHMC garbage trolley collects the waste from the household and segregates the dry and wet waste which later reaches the Resource Collection Centre. The DRCC centres are also working in Rajendranagar, Uppal, LB Nagar, West and Central Zones. Speaking to The Hans India, an outsourcing employee at DRCC centre said “GHMC garbage trolley segregates the waste and we purchase the waste from them.
There are nearly 15 workers working at DRCC near Sanjeevaiah Park, the waste collected from the trolleys is again segregated into different items such as multi-layer lamination cover, mix waste paper, note books, old newspaper, pet bottles, glass, beer bottles and other items and later based on the requirement various private companies and others buy this which is again recycled by them”.
A worker at Collection Centre Durga Prasad said that they purchase waste from trolley and the price differs from day to day depending on the market. He said that the price of multi-layer lamination cover is Rs 2 per kg, Karf at Rs 8 per kg, old newspapers at Rs 9 per kg, pet bottles at Rs 23 per kg, milk covers at Rs 9 per kg, mixed plastic at Rs 9 per kg, black plastic & plastic glass are purchased at Rs 2 per kg and other various other items.
