Kashipur Village: A new petrol pump is being constructed at Kashipur village, diagonally opposite to Indirakaran police station in Sangareddy which would be manned by the Sangareddy jail inmates.

The petrol pump would be operational within three months. Speaking to The Hans India, Superintendent of Sangareddy new jail Santosh Rai said this is the first petrol pump in this region that would be completely managed by inmates. In all there are 15 petrol pumps operated by the Prisons department in the State.

The petrol pump is coming up in 2,000 square yards out of the one acre land that was given by the revenue department to the Prisons department. Santosh Rai said, “In the remaining land a food court and a weighing bridge is planned in the future. The location is ideal as there is a lot of traffic in the area and the petrol pump is strategically located.”

About 12 inmates would get employment with a monthly salary of Rs 9,000. The Prisons department had already submitted a proposal to increase the salary to Rs 12,000 which is under consideration said a senior official. He further added that in other petrol pumps the staff is paid even less than Rs 9, 000.
