The residents of Praneeth Pranav Panorama and other buildings in the area on Friday claimed that several complaints to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have been in vain. The residents said that garbage was discarded on open plots leading to unhygienic conditions besides foul smell and mosquito menace.

Tanya, a resident and MNC employee said the waste is not collected on time and hence people dump the waste generated in their household onto the open lands. The foul smell emanating from the dump yards is nauseating as it gets difficult for one to pass the area while holding their breath. “The garbage being dumped on open plots also leads to stray dog menace. The dogs come in search of food and once they get used to the area they become frequent visitors and scatter the waste in search of food,” she added.

Explaining the ill-effects of open dump yards for street animals, caretaker of animals Smitha said disposal of waste on open lands can result in contaminated wastewater, unexpected releases of toxins and environmental pollution. There are so many related issues due to garbage dumps on open lands especially the effect it has on street animals like dogs, cats and cattle.

The animals consume plastic material unknowing and suffer. “Even educated, well-off people come in their cars and dump waste here,” she added. The GHMC officials said that Ameenpur does not fall under the purview of GHMC but falls under Gram Panchayat.
