Hyderabad: Lack of coordination between Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Irrigation Department coupled with apathy is causing the residents of Arundhati Nagar severe inconveniences. Laxity of municipal authorities in completing the construction of the retaining wall on the Nala is leading to piling up of garbage, domestic waste thus, attracting stray dogs and pigs in the locality.

During the rainy season, the nala water flows into the house affecting the health of the residents of Arundathi Nagar, Dhobi Ghat, Ashok Nagar and other areas residing on the edge of nala. A resident of Arundathi Nagar, Umesh said that in the year 2002 some part of the retaining wall was constructed after which the construction works were stopped by the contractor. He said that the GHMC had approved the construction of six kilometres retaining wall but if the Kirloskar committee’s proposal comes into effect than nearly 200 families would come on roads. Either way the construction would affect the families as the Irrigation Department already marked the area for the construction of the wall, he added.

Another resident Raju said the retaining wall should be constructed during the summer season only or else the nala water would flow into the houses during the rainy season which would lead to various diseases. Arundathi Nagar Corporator Muta Naresh said that it been more than eight-year that the construction of the retaining wall on the edge of nala had not been taken up by the Irrigation Department. He said that we have given many complaints to the officials but all in vain.
