Charminar: Naqaar Khana, a historic structure near Pathergatti, which is revered by Shias particularly during the month of Muharram, remains in a state of neglect. Part of the Baadshahi Ashoorkhana, where drums are played, suffered damage about 12-year-ago, after its roof collapsed.

According to Mujawer Ashoorkhana Mir Murtuza Ali, after the roof of the Naqaar Khana collapsed and the structure suffered massive damage, a representation was made last year to the department of Archaeology and Museums, during last Muharram. A detailed project report was also made and estimations were made of Rs 1.37 crore towards repairing and restoring the Naqaar Khana. He lamented that nothing had been done since then.

“On the eve of World Heritage Day we demand that the government release the funds for repair of this historic structure,” said Mir Murtaza Ali. This Ashoorkhana was built in 16th Century by Quli Qutub Shah, the founder of Hyderabad and remained a mourning place for the members of Shia community ever since during the month of
Muharram.
