Rajendranagar: Municipal authorities in Rajendranagar are taking up desilting at a massive level covering five divisions. About 16 storm water canals (nalas) will be cleaned during this drive. Unlike in the past, the zonal officials are taking this work as a challenge and are taking up the works under complete personal monitoring. Tenders are being rolled out for about Rs 1.05 crore and works have already started. These works are expected to be completed by June 1 and officials are leaving no stone unturned for completing the works without any flaws. Engineering wing of Rajendranagar GHMC is attentively taking up these works.

Interestingly, 16 works at all the 16 lakes have been allotted to different contractors in order to complete the works in a stipulated time. The desilting works are being taken up with the help of special machinery besides trained manpower. Sanitation staff had been engaged in this task to carry out the task precisely.

The nalas that are being cleaned include Suleman Cheruvu to Ura Cheruvu, Firangi Nala, Shyamalanagar Nala and others. Executive Engineer D Lachiram said that these nalas are cleaned up in order to save the people from difficulties during rainy season. He said that nalas create lot of troubles in the residential areas and hence cleaning of these storm water canals gives relief to the citizens as well as municipal officials. He said that removal of silt and other stuff from the nala would be easy during summer whereas during rainy season it becomes a tough task.
