Traffic woes caused by road expansion works

Yakutpura: The road widening works taken up at Edi Bazar to Rakhsapuram stretch could not ease the traffic movement following the violations by the property owners and official apathy. The civic authorities have taken up the road widening works in the year 2014 but it turned out to be futile exercise and traffic movement was not eased. Many private properties were acquired for taking up the road widening on this stretch. While few agreed, others property owners approached High Court in the past.

Ironically, the property owners who were given compensation for demolishing their properties, were still using the major part of widened road. They are parking their vehicles on the road making the entire exercise aimless. On the other hand, the electric poles are standing in the centre of the widened road. This seems ridiculous and creates inconvenience for the traffic movement on this stretch.

Officials also seem helpless before the property owners who are parking their heavy vehicles on road and regular brawls are common on this issue. While this is the situation at widened road, some work is still going on. The work from Imadia Function Hall to the temple in Rakshapuram is yet to be completed. Locals have demanded for early completion of the works and removal of electric poles from the road.
