Tall promises of an underground drainage system remain on paper. Projects in Hafeezpet are yet to take off. From the corporator to the officials of the GHMC all pass the buck.

Either it is the contractor who is not delaying the work or the blame is on GST. Locals say that officials always speak about retenders. Open drains welcome people in almost all the colonies and basties. Sanitation workers are never seen and complaints to the GHMC go unheard. Clogging of drains is a daily affair. The conditions in Hafeezpet is just the tip of the iceberg and the problem is all over Serilingampally constituency. The Hans India reporters visited the area and spoke to residents. Locals say that officials always speak about retenders
At the time of elections all parties and officials come and promise that they would solve all problems but once they get elected, they simply ignore it. when you enter the area of Hafeezpet you will only see is drainage everywhere. Only the posh colonies of the area are well maintained rest all when people come to visit area of block B and the main roads of the area you will find only drainage. Our children who do nothing but are suffering with diseases because of the drainage issue in the area. Hope GHMC will atleast now try to understand our situation. - Sneha Kumari
Health problems is something that all know about but due to sewerage on the roads, old people, senior citizens, physically challenged, children and vehicles and face lot of difficulties. In the lane my neighbour expired and people who were present in funeral were not able to stand in this lane so someone from our area brought a lorry full off sand and laid on the road. I spoke to corporator but he was just listening but not responding. - Kishan Kumar
This has been happening since a long time. We have been requesting for the sewerage work but no one has taken an initiative. In 2017 the amount has been sanctioned for sewerage but work is not yet completed. Our Welfare Association has given petitions on several occasions but we only get lame excuses. There is no political will, if there was, the work would have been undertaken. - Shaik Saleem Uddin, ANB Colony Welfare Association
Since four years we are facing this serious problem of sewerage. The foundation stone for the project was laid on October 2017 but it didn’t not take off. The sewerage is over flowing on roads and has turned into mosquito breeding centres leading to causing health problems. All our requests are unheard. By asking to the municipal corporation officials said, “We are aware of the issue, the delay is due to the contractor not taking up the work over the GST. We decided to re-tender the work, keeping the GST component. We will be floating the tenders. I hope this may come true. We fail to understand why the authorities are turning a blind eye. Already several years are lost and soon we are going to have elections. If the retenders are not done now, there is no hope. - Syed Iftequar Ahmed, General Secretary ANB Colony Welfare Association)
Till now many children have fallen sick because of mosquito bites. Doctors say that the problem perists just due to unhygienic conditions. This constituency is one of the fastest developing one, but there is a step-motherly treatment to Hafeezpet. The problems double when it rains and we shudder the thought of rainy season, which is not far away. Whenever we complain, the stock reply is that the contractor is delaying the work. When it rains there have been times when we did not come out of our beds, as sewerage entered the houses. Most important drainage water gets mixed up with drinking water and we have no other choice will drink the same water the reason we cannot purchase litres of drinking water. - G. Pallavi
