Hyderabad: Family of Nana Bagh Masjid’s Founder, Late Mir Liyaqath Ali Khan has demanded TS Wakf Board to appoint a member from a family as Mutawalli (Care Taker) of the mosque under the provisions of inheritance.

Speaking to media persons, Malika Begum, wife of Late Mir Wahed Ali Khan, the previous caretaker and son of the Mosque’s founder questioned the recent appointment of Zulfeqar Ali, as the Mutawalli of the mosque. She said that since their family managed the mosque and attached property for decades, it should be her son Mir Liyaqath Ali Khan, who should be made a caretaker, as per the Wakf norms.

She explained that for a brief period, non-family member was taking care from ‘Area Committee’, since her son was very young and lost his father at a tender age. “As per rules Area Committee is giving Wakf fund to Waqf Board time to time. If Waqf Board is not satisfied by Area Committee which was running Masjid under Area people Committee, then my son Mir Liyaqath Ali Khan should be appointed as a Care Taker instead of Zulfeqar Ali, who is nowhere related to this Wakf property,” she said.

Late Mir Liyaqath Ali Khan founded the Nana Bagh Masjid, with a property spread in 16 acres and 22 guntas near Lokayuktha office. Following his death, as per the inheritance his son Late Mir Wahed Ali Khan became a Care Taker. After Wahed Ali Khan died Masjid was running by area people under name ‘Area Committee’ for the past 40 years, since Wahed Ali Khan’s son was just a child. However, to the family’s shock, in April, T S Waqf Board appointed Zulfeqar Ali as new Care Taker.
