Hyderabad: The Municipal officials have claimed that the concept of the ‘Basti Dawakhana’ has been giving good results and which is envisioned for slum areas. The programme was introduced to help the poor and under privileged get the medical facilities in their localities.

About 17 Basthi Dawakhanas were opened by the Health Minister C Laxma Reddy on April 6. Medical facilities are provided free of cost in these clinics and 70 patients are visiting every day in these clinics. Additional Commissioner Health, Sikta Patnayak said that each Basti Dawakhana was spending Rs 7 lakh for providing medicines. She said that the initiative was inspired by the Mohalla Clinics of New Delhi.

Citizens have appreciated the concept and said that more such clinics should be opened in the interior slum areas across the city. The Basthi Davakhanas are running very effectively where the people are regularly visiting for their medical facilities.

Some of the Basthi Dawakhanas are Narkhi Phool Bagh at Falaknuma, BJR Nagar in Malkajgiri, Errakunta in Kapra Cirlce, Ranganayakula Gutta, Hayathnagar Circle, GHMC Housing Board at Uppal Circle, Indiragandhipuram at Moosapet Cirlce, Nandanavam in LB Nagar, Yellammabanda at Kukatpally, Prashasan Nagar at Jubilee Hills, , Arundathinagar at Amberpet, Bakaram in Musheerabad, Ganganagar at Amberpet, Guddibowli at Malakpet, Ashamabad at Falaknuma, Gaddiannaram at Malakpet, Chachanehru Nagar at Amberpet, Shyamlal Building at Begumpet.
