Vikarabad records upsurge in rural development

Vikarabad: District seems to outshine others in rural development, the progress report for 2017-18 released by the District Rural Development Officer(DRDO) here on Friday stated.

The MGNREGS job cards were sanctioned to 1,76,863 families and 4,01,132 workers were registered. While 91,853 families got work, 1,71,451 got the benefit. As many as 54,58,341 job days were allotted.

At the beginning of this year 14,516 families completed 100 job days, resulting in the district standing first in the State in providing jobs to the highest number of families. The report said 4,588 SHG women received loans, without interest, totalling Rs 156.49 crore through the nationalised banks and Rs 27.21 crore through the Stree Nidhi banks The Swachh Bharat Mission played a prominent role in the district, with toilets being allotted to 67,595 families. As many as 58,804 toilets are under construction. So far 7,992 families have built toilets and 23 villages are declared open defecation-free.
