Video of TRS councillor thrashing man goes viral

Hyderabad: A video of alleged thrashing of a man by TRS councillor Venu Goud and others in Pahadishareef area went viral on social media. Even as the police tried to contain the situation, the video was seen widely circulated in the social media on Thursday.

According to police, Goud and others resorted to thrashing the man in view of the rumours of child kidnappers, as the man in the question was unable to communicate with them about who he was and what he was doing in the area. The man was later sent to a hospital for treatment.

“Action will be initiated against whoever is involved in the incident. This happened because of the rumours being afloat about the gang of kidnappers from Bihar. People should not believe in rumours and if they come across anything they must inform us and should not take law into their own hands,” said, Pahadishareef inspector P Laxmikant Reddy.

In the amateur video the man in kurta-pyjama with beard is seen beaten by the aides of councillor who is seen questioning the man. The police acknowledge that Goud and his men were there in the incident. However, the police did not reveal the details of the man in the question. A case was also registered against those who thrashed him for ‘causing hurt’ by the Pahadi Shareef police.
