Lingojiguda: The fifth outlet of the Prisons Department selling items made by the inmates was opened at Kishan Kumar Complex in Durga Colony, by K Arjun Rao, superintendent of Prisons, Central Prison, here on Sunday.

The outlet stocks items made by prison inmates which include almirahs, stolls, bed sheets, towels, doormats, phenyl acid, bakery items and woollen garments. The stall would be maintained by Krishnamachary.

Senior officials of the police department said that the idea of opening such outlets was evinced by VK Singh, DG of Prisons, Telangana State, and now with successful running more prison outlets would be opened across the State. With the inauguration of Durga Colony outlet, the number of stalls operating in the city has gone up to five.

Officials said that the outlets were doing well and is a morale booster to the prisoners and would egg them on to produce quality products. The department is keen on opening outlets in district headquarters as well as mandal headquarters.
