Mehdipatnam: During Ramzan every colony takes pride in organising iftar for guests and locals. The residents feel they are duty-bound to organise a variety of food for those breaking fast.

To organise iftar party an open space is needed where temporary sheds are erected, and cooking takes place on two to three large stoves. For bastis where open space is a problem, they search for alternatives to somehow cook and serve best savouries for the devout.

On Monday when the residents near Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital wanted to organise iftar at Eidgah Military Ground, the Army personnel denied permission for cooking. Finding no open place nearby and desperate to organise iftar party the organisers decided to start cooking at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital bus stop itself. The commuters and pedestrians were a surprised lot as some enjoyed the aroma of Muslim culinary while some were troubled by the smoke and heat at the bus stop.
