An eye bank at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital was inaugurated by Minister of Health and Family Welfare C Laxma Reddy in Mehdipatnam on Wednesday.  Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is now the first government facility to host an eye bank. The new upgraded eye bank can host and protect cornea for until two months proving timeless opportunity to the receiver. 

Mehdipatnam: An eye bank at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital was inaugurated by Minister of Health and Family Welfare C Laxma Reddy in Mehdipatnam on Wednesday. Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is now the first government facility to host an eye bank. The new upgraded eye bank can host and protect cornea for until two months proving timeless opportunity to the receiver.

The hospital was renovated with new upgraded eye bank, ambulance facility, specular microscope and improved interiors of the post operation ward. Health minister Laxma Reddy said “It is the first government eye bank in south India. Routine treatment in government facilities will be reduced with the help of new equipment and better facilities so that the hospitals can provide specialty treatment for free.

Healthcare being our primary concern, the government is taking necessary steps to improve the healthcare sector from the ground level of primary healthcare centers. Apart from that we are also planning to control avoidable. blindness Recently the first government infertility centre was launched at Gandhi Hospital.”

Nampally MLA Jaffer Hussain said “The new eye bank will light every eye in need, we are planning to provide much better facilities like night shelter for patient attendants and we will also file a proposal for a new building.” He also noted that in 1961 Kapadia eye bank named after grandfather of Susheel Kapadia has served the hospital for decades.

Superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital said “The equipment’s like specular microscope and the new eye bank can help us serve better. The old eye bank could only protect the eye ball for 24 hours, but the new facility can save them for two months this be a gift to the reviver.”
