Kattedan: Owing to its close proximity to Shamshabad one of the big projects after delay of over a decade, the works of P Indra Reddy Indoor stadium being undertaken by the GHMC appears to be on fast track. One of the ambitious projects of the civic body in this part of the city in sprawling 8-acre chunk is likely to be completed by year end.

The stadium’s first structure being built in 1.5 acre of land which houses a tennis stadium with a seating capacity of 1,500 spectators has almost completed. The work which was started in 2004 by the HMDA was later handed over to the then Rajendranagar Municipality and after formation of GHMC the responsibility was rested with the civic body. However, the authority took up the work serious from July 2017 with an estimated budget of Rs 10 crore. “Almost 80 percent of the work is completed for this first complex and we hope to finish this off by year end,” said Dattu Panth, superintending engineer (south zone projects), GHMC.

This structure will also house arena for carom, boxing and gymnastics. The GHMC is spending Rs 6 crore for main structure, while Rs 2 crores each will be spent on civil works and wooden flooring. While another Rs 2 crores is likely to be spent on drainage and septic lines whose tenders will be called shortly. In the remaining space, the Civil authority has plans to come up with outdoor stadium and arena for volley ball, football, kho-kho, swimming pool and an amphitheatre.

Sports complex to have A/C

Even though the sports complex being developed has the imprint of its original plan, the officials are pondering over the idea of making this a completely air-conditioned with centralised A/C, given the proximity to the Shamshabad Airport. Recently, Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan has asked the officials to find out the feasibility of transforming the structure into fully air-conditioned stadium for the scope of organising international events like summits and conferences in near future. “We are exploring the possibility of making this structure fully air-conditioned in tune with the vision of Mayor,” quipped the official.

Contractor at the site informed The Hans India that the ‘polymer sheeting work’ will be completed within couple of days and the entire civil work will be completed within a month. The wooden flooring will be started in the next stage.
