Secunderabad: All arrangements are being made to organise the Bonalu festival in Ujjaini Mahankali temple here on a grand scale on July 29 and 30, when 40 lakh devotees, as against 32 lakh last year, are expected to visit. Ministers Padma Rao and Srinivas Yadav reviewed the arrangements in the Secretariat. The festival will begin with ‘Edurkollu’ on July 15 and conclude with ‘Rangam’ (prediction of future events) on July 30.

The Mahankali police, the temple officials and traffic department have initiated steps not to cause any inconvenience to devotees during the festival. The police are arranging CC cameras. A shed costing Rs.24 lakh is being built inside the shrine for the benefit of visitors in view of the monsoon.

Temple EO S Annapurna told The Hans India that Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy had readily agreed for a ‘Bangaru Bonam’ at the request of his Cabinet colleague Srinivas Yadav. She said the ‘Ardhamandapam’ wall was being given a silver coating weighing 250 kg. Arrangements are being made to bring an elephant from City zoo for ‘Gajarohanam’. Special counters are being opened to offer ‘Laddu’ and ‘Pulihora’ continuously to devotees, besides toilets.

Mahankali CI Ramesh said fool-proof security steps are being taken, including installation of 130 CC cameras around the temple. As many as 4,000 police personnel, including moré women, would be on duty. ‘Mufti’ police would be on duty to check pick-pocketing, bag-lifting and chain-snatching. Ambulances and doctors to tackle emergency cases are being deployed.
