Hyderabad: The Telangana Auto Motors Drivers’ Trade Union on Wednesday urged the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to stop the special drive against the school autos and vans, as thousands of such drivers were being issued challans as penalties.

As many of them were poor, the union, in a representation to the officer, suggested that only those persons who make mistakes should be challaned, and not thousands. The representation alleged that auto drivers were being issued challans for carrying more students in their vehicles. In the case of vans the drivers were being penalised amounts of Rs.1,500-1,600 even if there was one occupant more than permitted.

The representation was signed by the union leaders D Srinivas, Shankarlal, N Ravinder Reddy, A Sathi Reddy, V Shravan Kumar, Vemula Marayya, S Ramakrishna.
