Hyderabad: United States India Education Foundation (USIEF) hosted a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) programme for students joining US universities in fall 2018 at Kondapur on Friday. The programme was conducted to assist students and to familiarise them with American education system, social and cultural life.

Consulate General of the United States Hyderabad, Katherine B Hadda said, “India is the second largest country of origin of international students in the United States, with more than 17 per cent of international students in America from India. And you all now join this confederation of more than 1,000,000 international students and more than 180,000 Indian students who are pursuing their higher studies at one of the 4,500 accredited institutions in the United States.”

A former student of University of Massachusetts Boston, Venkatesh Reddy explained the experience of first week on campus which includes the welcome week by the university. He said that students were given a tour to observe the campus and engaged in conversation with the faculty and staff. Drew Diprinziom, from University of Georgetown, spoke about how International student should arrange housing in USA, what all facilities will be provided by campus, How to manage time in US as a student and what all necessary things needed for an Indian student and he also presented a presentation on student social life in United States of America.

American Indian from George Washington University, Akash Suri shared his experience and listed the important things that an Indian student took take care of like Passport, I20 and State ID. He also spoke in panel discussion about the security and financial crises how to overcome it and how to get a job in campus itself.
