Golconda: In a blatant violation of the diktats of even Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to discourage the practice of erecting flexi posters, banners displaying local politicians have sprung up in Langer Houz flyover and streets of Lal Darwaza and close to the Golconda Fort.
The flex posters are hung all around the Golconda Fort defacing the area.
Ravi, a local says, “These posters are an eye-sore” Work Inspector from GHMC enforcement wing, Zaheer said, “We remove about 200 banners every day from electric poles and streets.
There are strict instructions from the higher authority to remove any banner on the roads or public spaces.”
Local leaders are using the Bonalu festivities for propaganda on a largescale. Birthday wishes and photos of politicians are included in the flexies. “In the past few months, birthday posters are being used for advertising,” said Zaheer.
The posters also pose danger to people as they fall on commuters when there is heavy wind. Incidents of accidents, and delay in metro rail services were reported several times in the city because of floating flex banners.
GHMC Jubilee Hills enforcement worker, Raju said “We usually hear complaints about civic issues in the city, although it is illegal complaints on flex banners are rare.”
Deputy Mayor, Baba Fasiuddin admits that “ Displaying of flex posters are illegal and if we identify any such cases we get them removed instantly.”
