Nacharam: If you ever happen to visit the Ambedkar Nagar Anganwadi centre in Nacharam, it wouldn’t be your fault if you mistake it for a godown instead of a place for children to play and learn. The Anganwadi functioning from a small house has no provision for toilets and water.
Speaking to The Hans India, Shashikala, a teacher said, “We have 25 kids in our centre. If any child wants to visit the toilet they go to their house and there is no drinking water as well. We even complained to the corporator but there is no response.” The Anganwadi staff says that they are in a constant state of fear as the roof may collapse anytime. It is an old building with roof of asbestos sheets. Children at the centre are not safe because the old structure may collapse any moment.
In Nacharam there are 12 Anganwadi centres but only two which have been rented are in good condition, the other 10 centres are in a bad state of condition with no electricity, water and washroom facilities for the children.
NVSS Prabhakar, MLA representing Uppal Assembly constituency said, “No funds have been provided for the Anganwadi centres, we are asking for new permanent centres to be provided but the Telangana government has only increased the salaries of the Anganwadi teachers, but they did not provide any facilities to the centres”. Locals say that there are no facilities provided at Anganwadi centres, the children are studying there only because the parents are facing financial problems.
