Malakpet: Government employees, social workers and political parties across the Old City celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with devotion. The Socialist Party India members gathered at Malakpet x Roads and the flag was hoisted by social activist Neena Jadhav, the daughter of Telangana activist Late Keshav Rao Jadhav.

The participants included Janardhan Reddy Ex-MLA, R Somaiah social activist, Babu Rao social activist, P Gopal vice president SPI, Iqbal Khan vice president people's union for civil liberties ,Dr Lubna Sarwar general secretary SPI Telangana State, Jaya Vindhyala, general secretary, People's Union For Civil Liberties and legal advisor SPI and Rajan Sharma, a local resident were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile near Charminar, TRS Charminar constituency Mahila vice president Gunti Manjula Rani organised a programme of celebrating the Independence Day near Hussaini Alam, which was attended by TRS leader Shanti Akka who hoisted the national flag and others also attended.

In Kurmaguda, Md Ghouse Mohiuddin, Additional DCP South Zone hoisted the national flag at Wahed Colony. Later, a monthly pension distribution programme for widows was also held, where about 30 cheques of Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 were distributed to the widows by Ulul Albab Religious and Charity Trust, which gives a monthly pension to the widows. Dr Sameena Begum, Kurmaguda Corporator and others were present in occasion.
