Banjara Hills: To mark the occasion of World Photography Day, Hyderabadi photographers exhibited an annual photo exhibition of Indian Birds at GVK mall at Banjara Hills on Sunday. Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP) and Friends of Flora and Fauna (FoFF) had captured and displayed the diversity of birds across India. Over 1,250 birds are found in India, of which 60 are endemic to country. “Over 150 species can be traced in Hyderabad, while Telangana houses over 350 species of birds,” said a birdwatcher associated with HBP, Ajnikya Suppekar.

In one picture the fan crest of ‘hoopoe’ lights up while feeding a juvenile, while iridescent shades of male Himalayan Monal lights up another. The exhibition displayed a range of photographs, from most common myna, to the not very common birds like black-throated bushtit. “Each photograph displays the magnificence of colors, diversity and behaviour of the species,” orated Telangana Special Protection Force director and environment activist, Tejdeep Kaur Menon.

A visitor S Rajesh while pointing at the photograph of Telangana state bird Indian roller tossing a mouse before eating it, said “each bird is captured in a candid way.” The photo exhibition is being held to spread awareness among the individuals about the diversity of myriad species of birds found across India. “Seventy per cent of the birds displayed in the exhibit showcases the birds from Telangana State,” said Rajeev Khandewal.
