Gowlidoddi: While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials are striving to clean the city, some of the residents have been irresponsible and throwing of wastage at open places and nalas which has become a daily spot for them. There are some places in west zone including KPHB, Kukatpally, Ameenpur, Gowlidoddi, Chandanagar and Balanagar which are witnessing open garbage dump yards.
Though there have been a lot of campaigns like Swachh Bharat, Swachh Hyderabad and creating awareness among the people to keep surroundings clean, there is no change seen in some of the areas, GHMC official said. Due to the littering wastage at open places and open nalas, the mosquito’s population is on the rise. Several people of the areas are suffering from the malaria and dengue due to the unclean streets of the areas.
The residents said that they were throwing garbage where the garbage existed. There were no sign boards not to dump wastage, they alleged. The residents alleged that the GHMC officials were not turning to resolve the issue even if we made many complaints regarding issues, they added. Rajeev, a resident of Gowlidoddi, said that the garbage in the city yet remains dirty at most of the places in the city. Duo to these open dumping yards, the local residents as well as commuters is getting inconvenience. He said that the GHMC officials should place the dumping bins so that the locals would use those bins to leave the wastage.
Student from JNTU Garima Ved said, “Garbage is being thrown on the main road and when one person throws the garbage at that particular place others also start throwing it there. This is being continued from couple of days and yet no one to question them, why are they doing so? Will this remain same way in future also, she adds.
Smitha, a caretaker of street animals said, “Dispose of wastage at open places can result in contaminate water, unexpected releases of toxins and environmental pollution. There are so many related things happening because of the garbage thrown on lands especially, the street animals like dog and cow are suffering in pain the plastics which they throw are eaten by them. There are a few serious impacts like this due to careless garbage disposal.” Even educated, well-off people come in their cars and dump waste here, she adds.
The GHMC official said that the GHMC had plan for this year to make Hyderabad a bin free city and ready to introduce Swachh auto tippers. It will be made mandatory for house-owners to hand over waste directly to Swachh auto tippers (SAT).
