The man responsible for the construction of Telangana Martyrs Memorial, later christened as Gun Park in memory of over 300 people who died in police firing during a Telangana agitation in 1969, is no more. He passed away at 8:20 am on Wednesday. N Laxminarayan Mudiraj was the Mayor of Hyderabad in 1969-70.
He is renowned for standing up against former Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and built the Telangana Martyrs Memorial

A strong supporter of Telangana who also took part in the Quit India Movement and struggle for liberation of Hyderabad State and against the Razakars in 1947-48, went against the then Chief Minister Brahmanand Reddy and got a resolution for building the Telangana Martyrs Memorial approved by the municipal body.
Lakshminarayana laid the foundation stone of the Martyrs Memorial. He was elected the Congress MLA from Maharagunj city assembly constituency and served from 1972 to 1978 when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi wrote a personal letter to congratulate him. A staunch supporter of the Congress Party, he was a councilor in the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad for ten years from 1960-70 and leader of the Municipal Congress Party for two years from 1967-69.
He also served in several house committees such as estimates committee, education committee, sales tax advisory committee, backward class evaluation and coordination committee. He was the president of AP Mudiraj Mahasabha for 12 years. He was involved with several social causes and also was the president-cum-correspondent of Jalak Kshatriya Vidyalaya which is running two high schools in Hindi and Telugu medium for the last 30 years.
