French lawmakers have voted to include the stripping of nationality for convicted terrorists in the constitution. France's National Assembly voted by 162 to 148 late last night to incorporate a passport-stripping clause into the Constitution.

It follows in the wake of the jihadist attacks in Paris on November 13 that killed 130 people. The amendment of the constitution comes after weeks of debate and is one of a tough set of measures proposed by President Francois Hollande.

However, a follow-up vote is scheduled for today in which the lower house will reaffirm the vote.

This measure drew much attention in France for being too extreme and became highly controversial leading to French Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira's resignation on January 27, who described the law as unwanted and absolutely not efficient.

Earlier yesterday, parliament voted to extend the current state of emergency by another three months, giving police and security forces increased powers.
