Kabul: A Taliban coordinated car bombing and shootout killed at least eight persons and injured 16 in Afghnistan’s Jalalabad city on Thursday. The interior ministry confirmed the incident.

A spokesperson from the ministry stated, “A six-member group of Taliban terrorists raided a police station in Jalalabad city at 5.30 am. This provoked a sharp reaction by the police leading to the killing of five terrorists so far, while the operation to crackdown another one is on.”

The ministry later admitted that three more people, including two policemen and a civilian have been killed. Among the 16 injured, 15 members are police personnel and a civilian.

Meanwhile a person named Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack speaking to the media on phone from an undisclosed location.

According to Jalalabad hospital, four bodies have been brought but that of chief of the police station was not among those.
