Lahore: Fearing backlash from anti-government protesters, roads leading to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Lahore residence, have been blocked and heavy contingent of police deployed. The move came after Imran Khan and moderate cleric Tahir-ul Qadri's supporters were baton-charged outside the Prime Minister's official residence in Islamabad. Sharif, who had on Friday night went to Lahore with his staff, returned to the capital on Sunday.

Pakistan's army commanders are meeting in Islamabad amid clashes between police and anti-government protesters which have left three people dead and hundreds hurt. The meeting was brought forward after clashes flared up overnight. Khan claims widespread fraud in elections of May 2013 which brought Sharif to power, while Qadri is seeking widespread reforms in the election process to allow middle and low income Pakistanis to enter politics. Violence continued throughout Saturday night and subsided in the morning but the 18-day stand-off continued for Sharif's resignation.

Imran Khan has said he will file murder cases against Nawaz Sharif and interior minister. Stating that time is up for the Nawaz Sharif government, Khan said Sharif government is terrorizing people of Pakistan. The Lahore police on early Sunday placed containers on Raiwind Road leading to the palatial Jati Umera residence of Prime Minister Sharif here. Sharif had left the Prime Minister house in Islamabad for his Lahore residence, which is sprawling on acres of land, on Friday along with his personal staff. At least eight protesters were reported killed and 450 people injured in clashes with police in Pakistan as anti-government protests continue in the capital city of Islamabad. Another opposition party, the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), demanded immediate resignation of Nawaz Sharif and also announced it would observe one-day mourning in Karachi.
