ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! This is something that has become viral in the past couple of months. Celebrities doing the challenge is old news, what’s new is pouring half a bucket of ice water under the hot sun on yourself, posting it on Facebook and challenging your friends to do the same.

If you think I am here to say that it is merely waste of water and a futile attempt, then no that is not my intention. There are plenty of occasions where tons of water is used, such as holi, so if a bucket of water is used for a cause is not that big of a deal. The thing that baffles me is, the common people mainly teenagers who merely do it for fun. Maybe it is to show that they follow that worldly happenings or maybe in some twisted manner, they think it is cool to do so. When asked the reason behind the challenge all that they know is that it is for a disease called ALS and that if they are successful in getting drenched by ice water, then that is it, no donations or whatsoever should be done. For all the people who think this is the way it is to be done let me brief you on a few facts

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. And as there is no cure for this disease this challenge was started so that the amount collected can be donated to research, helping them find a cure. And coming to the challenge, there are a few rule which would prove that the petty challenges you posted on Facebook was of no use. “The person who was challenged and couldn’t do it should donate $100 and even if someone end up completing the challenge should donate minimum of $5.” So if actually interested in helping the people suffering from this disease, do donate some money.

How #theicebucketchallenge has given an idea of #thebookbucketchallenge or #beerbucketchallege is out of my reach! And even though #ricebucketchallenge which was also initiated due to the ice bucket challenge is appreciated as it is an attempt to help the poor. So please, don’t look for some sort of entertainment in everything that you come across, especially not something as serious issue as ALS
