Kim Jong-Un defied UN ban by firing “highly intelligent” anti-ship missile which “can hit a target 120km away”. North Korea has test-fired newly deployed anti-ship rockets with a range of 120km just weeks after the country claimed it tested a submarine-launched ballistic missile, the Daily Mail said.

The country’s leader Kim Jong-Un was pictured watching the test-firing of three KN-01 short-range missiles on Sunday from a site near the city of Wonsan, according to South Korea's defence ministry.

A Korean news agency reported on Monday that the missiles accurately detected and hit their targets. It did not say where it took place or provide specifications of the rockets. The test comes after North Korea claimed it had successfully fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile in May.

A fully developed submarine missile capability would take the country’s nuclear threat to a new level, but some experts have questioned the authenticity of the May test as photos may have been digitally altered.

A South Korean defence official said: “Our military is closely monitoring North Korea’s movement.” North Korea is currently banned by the United Nations Security Council from testing or developing ballistic missiles.
