London: A lawyer proposed to his Welsh girlfriend in a unique and innovative way via the Times crossword.
Matthew Dick from London, popped the question to Delyth Hughes by arranging for puzzle editor Richard Rogan to place the message inside the cryptic teaser, reported the BBC.
It is thought to be the first proposal since the crossword first appeared in the paper 85 years ago.
The couple was celebrating Hughes' birthday in Cornwall when the 38-year-old lawyer presented his 39-year-old girlfriend with the proposal and left her dumbfounded.
The clues included "Pretty Welsh girl widely thought not to be all there" with the six-letter answer "Delyth," and "Will you marry me, say, that's forward also rude!," to which the eight-letter answer was "proposal."
Expressing his happiness, Dick said that he underlined the words "will you marry me" which appeared in the clue as his hands were shaking when he put them in his pocket to get the ring.
Stunned with the proposal, Hughes said that it was a typical gesture from the love of his life, who she added was a smart-arse at the best of times.
