Islamabad: Former chief of Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General (retired) Hamid Gul, died of a brain hemorrhage today in Murree, north-east of Islamabad in Pakistan.

The retired general was known for his hardline views against India and United States. He was also highly outspoken on the Kashmir issue and reports state that he supported insurgency in the region during his tenure as ISI chief.

The 79-year-old Lieutenant General was declared dead at the Combined Military Hospital in Murree.

He served as director general of ISI between 1987 and 1989.

Former cricketer and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan condoled the dead of Gul and described him as a 'patriot'.

"Sad to learn of Gen Hameed Gul's death. Whether one agreed with his views or not, he was a patriot. Condolences & prayers go to the family," Khan tweeted.
