My name is Rumana Monzur. I was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I became blind four years ago in 2011 because of an attack by my ex-husband. At that time the story got media attention which helped me a lot in getting public support. I live in Vancouver, Canada now and pursuing my law degree at the University of British Columbia.

I want to take this opportunity to share my story.

This is the first time I spoke about my experience in public. I gathered the courage and strength to speak openly about my horrific experience with violence because I have received enormous support from the people around the world. Therefore, I felt I should share the link with you so that you can also spread the message. We can only succeed in the campaign of eliminating violence against women if the women who are vulnerable and living in the margins of the society receive the message. If you think this talk can bring any change in our society, please spread the word around. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and help.
