Kudankulam NPP: A Contract For Reactor Equipment For Unit 3 Signed. Russia\'s main reactor component supplier, OMZ\'s Izhorskiye Zavody facility at Izhora, has signed a contract to produce reactor equipment for unit 3 of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India.

Russia's main reactor component supplier, OMZ's Izhorskiye Zavody facility at Izhora, has signed a contract to produce reactor equipment for unit 3 of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India. In a statement yesterday, OMZ noted that the contract was not Izhorskiye Zavody's first collaboration with Rosatom's Indian partners – it was the main supplier of primary circuit equipment for the plant's first two units. Production of that equipment started in 2002 and was completed in 2008, OMZ said.

A General Framework Agreement for the construction of units 3 and 4 was signed in April 2014. The first stage of work on construction of those units is scheduled to start early next year, OMZ said.

Kudankulam NPP is being constructed within the frameworks of bilateral agreement signed on November 20, 1988 and on the basis of its supplement signed on June 21, 1998.

The road map on Russia and India cooperation in nuclear power stipulates for construction of 15 power units in all in India including Kudankulam site where it’s planned to construct from 4 to 8 power units.
