Russia's National Anti-terrorist Committee said it foiled a terror attack in Moscow and detained a group of suspects, a spokesperson for the committee said on Sunday.

A self-made explosive device was found and now rendered harmless in a residential house, the TASS news agency reported citing a spokesperson of the committee.

The suspects were detained in an apartment in Strelbishchenky Pereulok in Moscow's central administrative district.

According to preliminary estimates, the bomb's explosive yield might exceed four kgs of TNT, TASS said, quoting an unnamed source.

The source added that more than 120 residents in the area have been evacuated, and gas supplies have been cut off to prevent a possible explosion.

Police were patrolling the area.
