Another witness said one of the assailants mentioned France's intervention in Syria's war to justify the attacks.

"I clearly heard them say 'It's the fault of (French President Francois) Hollande, it's the fault of your president, he should not have intervened in Syria'. They also spoke about Iraq," said Pierre Janaszak, a radio presenter.

At least 140 people killed in the wave of attacks, more than 200 were injured, including 80 seriously, a source close to the investigation said.

The attacks took place at a concert hall and several bars and restaurants in eastern Paris, as well as the Stade de France national stadium north of the centre.

France has declared a state of emergency after at least 140 people have been killed in attacks across seven locations across the capital.
