“Witnessing history in the making. PM @narendramodi present as Kuala Lumpur Declaration establishes Asean Community,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson in the external affairs ministry, tweeted.
Modi was joined by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, South Korean President Park Gyun-hye and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang among others in witnessing the signing of the “Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the Asean Community” and the “Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Asean 2025: Forging Ahead Together.”

During his five-day, two-nation visit to Malaysia and Singapore, to attend the 13th Asean-India Summit and the 10th East Asia Summit, the prime minister on Saturday announced a $1-billion credit line to expand trade with the Asean and promised electronic visas soon for the nationals of its 10 members.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Modi asked the global investment community to set up shop in India and benefit from the country's fast growth, strong fundamentals, constant reforms, while seeking enhanced cooperation from the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) grouping to fight terrorism.
