Canada's more populous southern neighbour plans to take in just 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year, which again is in contrast to the US.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump caused a worldwide furor with a proposal to temporarily halt Muslims from entering the U.S.

"You are home. Welcome home," Trudeau said to the families arriving in Toronto. He earlier thanked staff and volunteers who were processing the refugees.
